The Journal News gears up for new community magazines!

White Plains, NY Ð The Journal News is preparing for one of itsÕ most ambitious 2005 projects with a series of community magazines.  The announcement was made today by Gary F. Sherlock, president and publisher of The Journal News.

The magazines titled IN-TOWN will debut on March 23 and is scheduled to appear 15 times this year in various markets throughout the tri-county area through the companyÕs custom publishing division.

Sherlock said, ÒThe mission of The Journal News as a company includes offering a host of publications to inform, inspire and entertain our readers, to fulfill the needs of our customers and to play an integral part of the communities we serve.  ÒOur new IN-Town magazines help us do all of these while being a natural extension of our core products."

ÒThe new high quality magazines will offer a micro-level of local coverage and information specific to their individual communityÓ said Warren Webster, director of custom publishing.  ÒThey will include stories about dining, families, unique places, activities, fitness, as well as directories and a calendar of events.Ó 

Staffing up for the efforts, The Journal News has appointed Mary Lynn Mitcham as the editor of the publications, responsible for the content of the new magazines, and Journal News veteran Scott Colontonio to be the new sales manager to director the advertising sales efforts.  The department will have its own ad and editorial team for the magazines.

Through custom publishing, The Journal News already publishes specialty magazines on weddings, businesses in Westchester and Rockland, health and other topics and creates publications for various clients, including theater and concert playbills, and visitor magazines.  The community magazines will be one of the companyÕs biggest efforts yet.
