The Journal News and WCBS-Radio 880

Join in Media Partnership

WHITE PLAINS, NY- Building on its unique and successful partnership with WCBS-TV formed last year, The Journal News will enter into another CBS partnership, this time with WCBS News Radio 880.

This innovative, three-way media union of print, TV and now radio is designed to provide additional coverage of breaking news and major events taking place in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam.

Like WCBS-TV, WCBS News Radio 880 will have a bureau and studio housed adjacent to the newsroom of The Journal News at the newspaperÕs corporate office in White Plains, NY. The announcement was made today by Gary F. Sherlock, president and publisher of The Journal News, and Steve Swenson, vice president and general manager of WCBS News Radio 880.

WCBS News Radio 880 will have the ability to broadcast live every day from the specially created studios, which will benefit both news operations through expanded coverage opportunities within the tri-county area.

Sherlock said, ÒWeÕre simply taking the idea of expanded coverage and more community involvement and running with it.Ó IÕm proud to be associated with both WCBS-TV and WCBS-880. As the dominant media company in the tri-county area, The Journal News now has available three effective platforms to reach residents in the market and increase our involvement with them.Ó

"The partnership between WCBS Newsradio 880 and The Journal News is a natural. Both are news leaders in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam Counties, and by working together, we are both strengthening our coverage of the tri-county area Swenson said.Ó   We're also thrilled to be in position to work even more closely with our sister station, WCBS-TV.  It's a win-win-win!"
